“if Wasian identity begins and ends with aesthetics, that’s eugenics.” a word. I am Japanese and Haitian and I am thinking of writing my first article related to this wasia renaissance because it is starting to get very sinister.

Filipino wasian here. While I’ve loved seeing the representation of Alysa Liu and Laufey and the memes about Wasia, you got at something in this article that immediately struck me when I saw the SF Wasian meet up. Someone asked me why I didn’t want to go to the meet up, and here’s the thing: I grew up in a super multi-cultural area with many mixed race people. I know plenty of people I share a cultural identity with that I have nothing in common with aside from an Asian mom/white dad situation. Basing representation solely on our looks isn’t real representation and it doesn’t provide the material community that we need to make all multi-cultural people feel accepted.
